House Hears Amendment Motion of Motion of Thanks of the Opening Speech of the President
The House of Peoples’ Representatives in its 3rd year’s tenure 2nd regular session held on 11th of October 2007 has heard amendment motion of thanks.
It is to be recalled that the House of Peoples’ Representatives has approved amendment motion of thanks after hearing of the opening speech of the president presented during the first meeting of the two Houses.
Meanwhile, representative of United Ethiopia Democratic Forces hon. Ato Gebru G/Mariam said that issues included in the opening speech to ensure democracy, peace and good governance in rural and urban areas and poverty reduction and market stabilization programmes are not realized on the ground.
Besides issues related to the rights and benefits of members of the House,
Sustainable solution for the existing inflation, further discussions between
the ruling party and the opposition parties, questions on self-determination
and corruption are not discussed in the speech.
Meantime, Leader of Coalition for Unity and Democracy hon. Temesgen Zewde on
his behalf said that lasting solutions are not taken to stabilize the market
and he added that government should stop intervention in the free market economy
and should also respect constitutional rights of the people.
Moreover, Temesgen said that the government should focus on decreasing unemployment existing in urban areas and adjust mechanisms to issue the press law in cooperation with stakeholders and the withdrawal of troops in Somalia should be given due attention.
Chairperson of the Oromo Federalist Democratic movement hon. Bulcha Demekssa also asked for the treatment of the oromo People as enshrined in the constitution.
Finally, the House has postponed the discussion on the amendment motion for the next regular session.
