The Parliament Re-elected Girma W/Giorgis the President of Ethiopia
The Houses of Peoples’ Representatives and the Federation have re-elected his Excellency Girma W/Giorgis as president of Ethiopia to serve the country for the coming 6 years.
The two Houses elected the President in their first joint session of the 3rd year tenure, which was held on 9th of October 2007.
Prior to the election, The House of Peoples’ Representatives has nominated his Excellency Girma W/Giorgis and Professor Beyene Petros as candidates as per the power vested in it by virtue of art. 70(1) of the constitution of the FDRE.
Meantime, the joint session of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation has approved the nomination and re-elected Girma W/Giorgis with over two-thirds majority votes by virtue of art. 70(2) of the constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Earlier than the voting Procedure by the two Houses, Government Chief Whip,
his excellency minister Sheferaw Jarso Presented the profile of his excellency
Girma W/Giorgis that he has Performed duties and responsibilities competently
playing pivotal roles in building the favorable image of Ethiopia in-country
and abroad.

Besides, Minister Sheferaw said that his Excellency Girma W/Giorgis has paid
working visits to various parts of the country to ensure whether nations and
Nationalities have been engaged in development endeavors on the basis of equality,
created healthy relationship with different social groups, and carried out reliable
activities to give due support to regional states.
At the end, President Girma W/Giorgis has made an oath to be loyal for the
peoples of Ethiopia and the constitution. And also he gave statement of commitment
to the peoples of Ethiopia.
