Untitled Document A Half-day Capacity-building symposium kicks off

A half day symposium has been offered on 26 Nov. 2007 to build and enrich the leadership Capacity of the Trade and Industry Affairs Standing Committee members so as to enable them play pivotal role in building democracy and good governance in Ethiopia.

The chairperson of the Trade and Industry Affairs Standing Committee in the House hon. Ato Kebede Abera has revealed this in his opening speech in the symposium held at Hilton Addis organized by the Indian Embassy to add values to the leadership of capacity of parliamentarians.

In due respect, committee members have shared worth taking experiences from the topics focused on World Trade Organization, trade concession, global world economy, Indian Investors success on floriculture and pharmaceutics industries and the current situation of investment and trade relation of Ethiopia and India among others, he has mentioned.

Further more, it is presumed that the trainees will achieve vital lessons as an impute which would contribute to implement the shared experience from economic policy of developing country in a globalizing world in Ethiopia, he has stated.

Moreover, the chair person explained that the training would clarify process of accession required from Ethiopia to be a member of the World Trade Organization.

Meantime, questions were raised by the members of the committee and answers were responded by Ambassador of India his Excellency Mr. Gurjit Singh.

His Excellency Mr. Gurjit Singh has explained that the government of India offers various training courses under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme to Ethiopia, which contribute to the capacity building endeavors.

Ethiopia is the first beneficiary of pan Africa e-Network project for Tele-education and Tele-medicine using Indian expertise in information technology to bring benefits of health care and higher education and currently trainings have been granted in different universities of Ethiopia, the ambassador said.

Furthermore, he said that the symposium signifies sharing and implementing Indian Policy of investment, industry and re-exercising Indian economic partnership aiming at developing capacity and leadership within the Ethiopian parliament to nourish the emerging democracy.

Meantime, papers were presented on economic policy of developing countries in the globalizing world, Indian Investment in Ethiopia, and on other related issues.
