Ethiopian was elected a member of the bureau of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific and European Union (ACP-EU) joint parliamentary conference.
According to a statement from the office of the Speakers of the House of peoples’ Representatives Ethiopia was elected a member of the Bureau at the 14th conference of the ACP-EU joint parliamentary conference held in Kigali, Rwanda from 14-22 November 2007.
Accordingly, Ethiopia will serve as a member of the bureau for the following two years together with Rwanda.
Ethiopia and Rwanda were elected as members of the Bureau representing the East Africa zone, the statement indicated.
Each of the six zones of Africa represents 2 members for the Bureau to make a total representation of the continent 12.
The 14th ACP-EU joint parliamentary conference has deliberated various issues among which the situation in Eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia, the natural disaster status in Africa, Africa-Europe strategies and summit of heads of states, national and sub-regional strategies, election, Economic partnership agreement, the Kigali Declaration and foreign investment are notable.
