Establishing the Agency for Rented Houses as a new agency would enable to improve the administration, preservation and maintenance of government owned houses, it was disclosed.
This was disclosed when the Infrastructure Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples’ Representatives, held a discussion forum with concerned bodies on 1st of Nov. 2007 to garner additional inputs on the bill to Establish the Agency for Government Houses.
It was minister of Works and Urban Development, his Excellency Dr. Kassu Ilala who explained that the re- establishing of the Agency and redefining of it’s mandates would allow the agency alleviate encountering and deep rooted problems with regard to administration, maintenance and preservation of the houses.
Moreover, according to the bill, the Agency shall have the power to give and execute expulsion orders to tenants of government houses who have breached their obligation under their contracts, the minister said.
Meantime, General Director of the Agency for Rented Houses with the rank of
State Minister, her Excellency W/ro Eniwey G/Medihin who disclosed that court
processes have been consuming agency’s financial resources and time, remarked
that the arbitration powers entrusted to the agency would contribute much to
settle those disputes related to government houses timely in accordance with
the regulation to be issued by the government.
