German Parliament donates Law and Reference Books to the HPR


The German parliament has donated 126 law and reference books worth more than 300,000 Ethiopian Birr to the library of the Ethiopian House of Peoples’ Representatives.

The speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives has received the donation on May 13, 2008 and expressed that the donation would highly contribute to build the capacity of the members of the House.

Besides, the Honorable Speaker said that the donated books would play vital roles as a source of expertise information to the professionals in support staff of the Office of the Secretariat stressing the support and the experience of the German parliament to the House would help to accelerate parliamentary democracy and good governance.

Meanwhile, the German Ambassador Dr. Claas Dieter Knoop on his behalf said that the members of the House may get parliamentary information from the donated books that would help promote the business of the House.

The German Ambassador added that the donation signifies the relation between the two parliaments in order to promote democracy, human rights, peace, stability and the dialogue of cultures.

It was noted that the donation consists of International Law, International Relations, Elections, Rural Development, Climate change, WTO and International Trading System, among others.
