Committee praises the Agency and Center’s performance reports

Committee said efforts of the Agency and the Strategic Center to enhance higher education institutions are playing pivotal roles on the development endeavors of the country.

The Capacity Building Affairs Standing Committee of the House the Hon. Ato Tekle Tessema stated this in his concluding remark when the committee heard the performance report of the third quarters of 2000 fiscal year of the Higher Education Strategy Center and Higher Education Standard and Quality Agency on April 30, 2008.

The Hon. Ato Tekle said that the Center has prepared directives, manuals, policies, strategies regulations and reviewed the Curriculum of higher education institutions and the Agency has strived to ensure higher education standard and quality.

Furthermore, he expressed that both the Center and the Agency should continue exerting their efforts to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness to realize the designed objectives of the higher education.

Meanwhile, the General Director of Higher Education Strategy Center Professor Zinabu G/Mariam said that the Center has prepared directives and regulations on matters, and disseminated relevant information, offered training and framed systems in relation to vocational and technical skills so as to accomplish its duties and responsibilities.

Besides, in order to protect the violence committed on women and support the student of higher education institutions who are disabled, the center has established convenient systems them, the General Director said.

As far as the review of curriculum of the higher education institutions is concerned, the center has prepared forums to curriculum review and development for the undergraduate degree programme to expand the higher education system, he noted adding that the Higher Education Strategy Center has utilized 56.63% from the total allocated budget.

Meanwhile, the General Director of Higher Education Quality and Standard Agency Dr. Tesfaye Teshome said that the Agency has given priority and attention to the higher institutions that prepared strategic documents and policies, carried out researches, offered training for capacity building, undertook commendable activities on management and information system as well as administration and finance aimed at enhancing and ensuring reliable quality of higher education.

It was provided in the report that the Agency has utilized 61% and 45.7% from the total allocated budged by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and the government respectively.
