ETHIOPIA DESIRES TO STRENGTHEN TIES WITH
INDIA

Speaker of the House of peoples’ Representatives, Hon. Ambassador Teshome Toga disclosed that Ethiopia is keen to further strengthen the existing relations with India.

The speaker, Hon. ambassador Teshome Toga disclosed this on 5th of July when he conferred with visiting delegation of India led by its foreign minister Mr. Pranab Mukarji.

Meantime, Hon. Ambassador Teshome recalled that the ties between the two countries is getting momentum through working collaboratively at international parlimetary forums.

As India is a developing country with established parliamentary democracy and decentralized form of government, Ethiopia has a lot to learn from India’s experience, he said.

In this regard, training opportunities provided by Indian parliament and the skilful supports extended by Indian experts would be instrumental for Ethiopia.

Indian foreign minister, his Excellency Mr. Pranab Mukarji who said that the cooperation between the two countries is very essential, has assured India’s readiness to continue strengthened the support being extended to Ethiopia .

Besides, the minister has invited the speakers of the Houses of peoples’ Representatives and the Federation to attend the International Federations Forum to be held soon in India.

Thereof, accepting the invitation, Hon. Ambassador Teshome uncovered that the discussion was fruitful.

In a similar development, the delegation has talked with the foreign, defense and security affairs standing committee of the House on the same date.

Meanteime, it was stated that the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and India has been growing time after time.

Besides, the two parties have pledged to further consolidate relations in the people to people and parliamentary ties, investment, trade, environmental protection, community welfare and others.

Present during the discussion were, chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of standing committees,members of Ethio-India parliamentary friendship group, her Excellency W/ro Gennet Zewdie, Ambassador of Ethiopia to India and head of House’s secretariat Ato Danyachew Befekadu.
