Zewditu Hospital Terminates Services Soon
Unless Pertinent Bodies Prevent Bottleneck

It was revealed that Zewditu Hospital would terminates the ongoing medical service delivered to the public in the near future due to its ineffectiveness.

The deputy chairperson of Social Affairs Standing Committee of the House hon. Ato Merewan Bedri remarked this while concluding the visit of Zewditu Hospital conducted by the committee on 31 Dec. 2007.

Hon. Ato Merewan expressed that even though the hospital had rendered medical service to the public for several years, at present , it is not delivered proper medical services to the public due to lack of logistics, medicine and timely maintenance.

Besides, unless the pertinent bodies would give due attention the hospital wouldn’t be in a position to perform its required activities, and is likely to stop services in the near future.

The chairperson of the Health Sub-sector of social Affairs standing committee hon. Ato Legessse Negash on his part said that the pollution existed due to lack of maintenance of wlta pipes of and waste disposal and limited number units of latrine, the hospital effected incapable to accomplish its objectives.

Meanwhile, Medical director of Zewditu Hospital Dr. Tizata Gosa on her part said that the hospital has reached level of incapable to provide medical service because of the old aged of the medical devices and other materials necessary for medical services.

Moreover, although, the government made salary increment for medical professionals, the level of brain drain is very high in such away that the problem is still unsolved and the hospital has carried on its activity using existed human resource.

In addition to the efforts of the hospital to combat bottlenecks, she said that despite the fact that, the hospital has strived to combat the services to satisfy customers, she stressed; the stakeholders and concerned bodies should add their contributions.

Meantime, during the work visit to the Yekatit Hospital by the Health Sub Committee of the Social Affairs Standing Committee, the medical director, Dr. Ephrem Kassa stated that due to the increase of the brain drain of professionals, the hospital has been compelled to close off some departments in the hospital.

Moreover, to avoid the prevalence of brain drain of professionals in future, the hospital the efforts exerted by the hospital to train new practitioners in collaboration with stake holders. Concerned is encouraging, the director underlined.
