Infrastructure Development Endeavor said bolstering
It was expressed that the ongoing stable construction industry and enhancement of the building of telecommunication technology immensely contributed to the development of infrastructure in Ethiopia.
This was revealed by the minister of Works and Urban Development his Excellency Dr. Kassu Ilala and the minister of Transport and Communication his excellence Ato Junedin Saddo while giving responses to the questions raised by the members of the House of Peoples’ Representatives in its 9th regular session held on 6 Dec. 2007.
His Excellency Dr. Kassu remarked that Ministry of Works and Urban Development has exerted efforts on the assurance of creating the stable road construction industry in the country by re-correcting the encountered difficulties faced during the construction of roads aimed at enhancing infrastructure development.
Besides, answering the questions raised related to the qualities and the act of delaying of construction, it has been ascribed to the lack of foreign and competent domestic contractors, difficult topography and scarcity of selected materials and financial resources.
Furthermore, homegrown contractors have been encouraged by the Ministry to actively participate in road construction in the country, he underscored.
Meanwhile, minister of Transport and Communication Ato Junedin Saddo noted that the endeavor of intensifying wireless, mobile and wired communication technology all over the country has significant role on the promotion of infrastructure.
As far as the payment of tariffs to the telephone service is concerned, the ministry is in a position to re-correct the amount of payment paid, adding that the difficulties encountered on the qualities of network due to establishment of the new network system would be resolved in the near future, when the fiber optics is installed, he explained.
Meantime, the proclamation to ratify the credit agreement between the government of Ethiopia and the Export Import Bank of India for financing projects for the development of sugar industry has been endorsed with majority vote cast by the House.
Meanwhile, the House has also approved the decision proposal aimed at representing Ato Mohammed Ahmed Indris to replacing the resigned Ato Ahmed Abagissa as House delegate to the Federal Judges’ Administration Council.
