The House has aggressively involved to support on the establishment of policy and legal framework to all-round development endeavors under way on in Ethiopia.
The chairperson of Ethio-German Friendship Committee and the Social Affairs Standing Committee of the House first lady W/ro Azeb Mesfin underscored this while she welcomed and talked with the delegation of Church Development Service - An Association of protestant churches and members of the parliament of Germany on 29, Feb. 2008.
Hon. W/ro Azeb Mesfin said that the House has involved on the issuance of legislations and deliberations on the education, public health, poverty reduction and development policies aimed at accelerating the ongoing socio economic development initiatives in the nation.
Besides, the House has discussed along with concerned bodies on education policy objected at mitigating illiteracy, and prevalence of democracy and assurance of education quality, she underscored.
Moreover, she explained that public health policy has focused on the protection of the public from HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculoses and others.
Furthermore, Ethiopia has registered remarkable development on the intensification of electricity, telephone and industry, she said
Meanwhile, questions were raised on the participation of members and women parliamentarians in the House, the achievement of poverty reduction strategy, legislations with regard to civil societies and the involvement in the ongoing development endeavor by the members of the delegation to which responses were given by hon. W/ro Azeb Mesfin.
Hon. Azeb said that any Parliamentary discussion and members opinion is disseminated
to their consistency via audio-visual equipments, magazines and journals.
The number of women parliamentarians in the house has increased in the 3rd natural
election held in 2005 in the country more significantly than elections conducted
before.
In addition, the nongovernmental organizations have provided training to the members of the House so as to build their capacity and Participate in their business aiming to weed out poor governance especially for women, she said.
Furthermore, the prevailing economic development registered is the result of effective and efficient implementation of poverty reduction strategy designed by the government, she underlined.
Meanwhile, director of international prgram and an association of protestant church Dr. Claudia Warning stated that the church would work along with Ethiopian government if suitable conditions are adjusted.
It was recalled that Germany has been upholding Ethiopian development endeavor
in engineering sector.
