Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs should Observe Cumbersome Beside the Plan

The Social Affairs Standing Committee of the House has declared that even though the performance reports of the Ministry of Social Affairs is encouraging due to its contemplation of the 5 year strategic plan of the country, unrealized activities should be reinforced in line with the plan.

The deputy chairperson of the Social Affairs Standing committee of the House hon. Ato Merwan Bedri has emphasized this when the committee evaluated the first two quarters of this Ethiopian fiscal year performance report of the ministry on 28 January 2008.

Hon. Ato Merewan said that although the ministry has performed activities in line with its plan and the 5 year development strategic plan, it should re-correct cumbersome faced during enforcement so as to achieve remarkable result.

Moreover, the performances have characterized by problems as far as regard unrealization of the proclamation that enshrined the rights of the disabled and establishment of elders multifaceted center are concerns the ministry should take corrective measures.

Furthermore, to avoid begging radically in the country the ministry should work intensively in collaboration with regional states and stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the members of the committee have emphasized that the ministry should give attention to the safeguarding of the health of the employees who are working under floriculture, cotton and garment industries as well as disposing dry waste, in accordance of amending it’s legislation which is used administrative purpose.

Meantime, state minister of Social Affairs her Excellency w/ro Zenebu Taddesse stressed that due to stringent and restraint nature of the provisions of labour proclamation No. 377/96, the ministry has carried out a study to amend thereof.

Besides, because of the accomplishment of information’s to protect labour exploitation of children, settle elders in suitable place, respect the rights of the disabled, secure the rights of citizens who would so abroad, safeguard the health of employees who are working in different industrial sectors and compromise of labour associations.
