The Capacity Building Affairs Standing Committee of the House displayed that the Southern Ethiopian Rift Valley Tse-Tsee Fly Eradication Project should quickly realized of eradicating epidemic allover the country so as the peasant and pastoralists to be benefited from the development endeavor which is being carried out in the county.
The chairperson of the Capacity Building Affairs Standing Committee of the House Hon. Ato Tekle Tesema expressed this on 16th January 2008 when the committee conducted working visit of the Southern Ethiopian Rift valley Tse-tse –fly Eradication Project under Agency of Science and Technology.
Hon. Ato Tekle said that the project should realized and enhance the research of the reproduction and sterilize of Tse-Tse-Fly eradication to the pastoralists and Peasants to be highly benefited from the prevailing development endeavor.
Moreover, the realization of the project would enhance the amount of productivity in a speedy manner by preventing the death of animals due to Tse-Tse-fly endemic.
Besides, if the project would be changed into effective and in a speedy manner and African countries would be benefited from the activities of the project.
Meanwhile, the general director of Science and Technology Agency Dr. Zerihun Kebede stated that the objective of the project is to make free of above 2 million hectares of land of rift valley from Tse-Tse-fly endemic so as to enhance productivity therein as a result poverty mitigation, would be implemented, he stated.
Besides, 36 African countries have been damaged by Tse-Tse-fly endemic. Accordingly the research center is trying to eliminate the Tse-tse-fly by reproducting and steriliziang and distributing the male Tse-tse-fly to the area where the female fly situated, in addition to spraying insecticide, the general director underscored.
Meantime, the head of Tse-tse-fly eradication project Dr. Temesgen Alemu on his part remarked that due to Agency’s strenuous support by International Atomic Energy, African Development Bank and others, the project has succeeded in and it would start its task at the end of 2000 fiscal year.
