House Endorses the Bill on Political Parties’ Registration

The House of Peoples’ Representatives has endorsed the amended draft proclamation of Registration of Political Parties that enable to develop democracy and the bill of Urban Planning in its 23rd regular session held on April 10, 2005.

The House, after it had thoroughly debated on the decision proposal presented by the deputy Chairperson of the Legal and Administrative Affairs Standing Committee of the House hon. W/ro Fantaye Gezahgn, has adopted the amended draft proclamation of Registration of Political Parties with the majority vote of 270 for, 75 against and 1 abstention as proclamation no. 573/2000.

Hon. W/ro Fantaye said that the amended bill of Registration of Political Parties enables to work strongly for the intensification of democracy, good governance, transparency and accountability.

In the comment session of parties and personalities in the House, hon. Ato Temesgen Zewdie expressed that the amended proclamation of Registration of Political Parties would affect the multiparty system underway in Ethiopia.

The chairperson of Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement Hon. Ato Bulcha Demekssa also stated that the amended bill of Registration of Political Parties has constraints on the activities of oppositions.

Similarly, the House has adopted the bill of Urban Planning with the majority vote of 325 for, 1 against, and 12 abstentions as proclamation no. 574/2000 after it had conducted discussions at length on the decision proposal presented by the chairperson of the Infrastructure Development Affairs Standing Committee of the House hon. Ato Wubneh Imru.

Meanwhile, the House has also approved with the majority vote of 299 for, 1 against and 45 abstentions the proposal of the Judges Administrative Council as regards the dismissal of Ato Shumalem Getachew Feleke from his power of adjudication due to the corruption committed as the Federal High Court attested at the court of law.
